There’s a big problem in the Apple App stores for the iPhone, iPad and the Mac App Store, and it could render apps unusable for anyone who updates to new versions of existing apps.
The issue is not limited to apps from a single developer or to a handful of apps, but more than 100 apps and counting.
Update: The problem should be fixed, proceed with updates.
Marco Arment, the developer of Instapaper provides a list of affected apps and details regarding the issues encountered while installing app updates, including app crashes and iTunes errors 8324 or 8326.
For apps that do not back up game data to iCloud or to another service, the only current fix is to delete the app and reinstall the update again. This may take multiple tries to restore a working version of the app, and it may also mean that users will lose game saves and app data.
The app crash issues reportedly affect a small number of users who are updating apps, and Apple is serving up the corrupted update files — not developers.
According to Readdle, a developer with an affected app, the problem is only affecting 1% of users who update. In this case, users of Scanner Pro are not going to lose documents thanks to iCloud backup.
The app crashing incidents are not going un-noticed by Apple. Apple provided the following statement to Techcrunch,
We are aware of the issue related to apps crashing after update. We are currently working on resolving the issue. Stay tuned for updates.
Apple has also reached out to developers, and one reports that Apple has a “dedicated team” investigating the problem.
Our advice is to avoid updating iPhone apps until further notice, especially if they contain important data not backed up to the cloud.
What to do if I updated an app and it keeps crashing?
Some users report that deleting the app and reinstalling it from the App Store will fix the issue. This may work instantly, or it may require a delay of several hours.
Users who cannot get an app working can try to install an old version of the app from their computer by deleting the current app and syncing the iPhone or iPad with the computer using these directions.
This will only work if the iPhone has not yet synced with the computer and it may not restore app data.
If the app will not re-launch and it has important data that has not been backed up, it may be worth waiting for developers to push a new version of the app which might fix the problem.

We’ve got a lot of friends using WordPress (WP) these days, and many have a question or two.
I’ve spoken with folks who wish they could sit down with their peers and see how they use WP, I’ve also talked with people who wish they could just run their site more smoothly.
Well I think it would be helpful to get a group together, have a website with links to all the best plugins and have answers to common questions and help a group out.
If this idea appeals to you, please fill out the survey below so I can work out a plan.

Guess who’s not using his brand new Droid Razr? | ZDNet http://zd.net/sKC3Za
Christopher Dawson of ZDNet uses 2 pages to document how horrible Verizon’s service is. Sigh.

Ouch. That’s a lot of people thinking that their phones have faster data downloads than they actually have. Millions of people.

Photo from ZDNet
The article also points out that:
24 percent of BlackBerry owners and 29 percent of Android owners thought the same thing.
From a marketing perspective this is pretty horrible because it means that the cell phone carries are doing a poor job of educating the public about 4G (faster service) and have failed to create a demand for it. Or…The sales teams have done a very good job of letting people think they have 4G.
The problem as I see it, is that people will not want to pay (again) for a speed bump, when their carrier finally delivers 4G in their area. For instance: In Tucson, Sprint sells 4G phones but does not actually provide 4G service. They still charge a $10 monthly premium though. Last I checked, AT&T and T-Mobile still have not kicked off their 4G networks in Tucson.

So my wife, in her infinite wisdom, got me an Amazon gift card for Father’s day. Apparently I’m hard to shop for. :{
I don’t think I’m hard to shop for. Go figure.
Anyway, there were so many cool gadgets. Bigger memory cards for my phone; a stylus for touch screens; a cloth that keeps the notebook screen clean when it closes. This list could go on and on.
Finally, I settled for a good bluetooth headset. I lose or break them more than I care to admit.
I found one with a low profile and noise canceling features called the Jawbone PRIME JBT01 Bluetooth Headset. Looking around on Amazon I found it listed for as much as $100. Ouch.

Click me for big version
Now I don’t usually give up that easily on Amazon. And I had a virtual gift certificate burning a hole in my pocket. So I looked a little harder and found this:
Jawbone PRIME JBT01 Bluetooth Headset – Retail Packaging – Silver
for $21!
Try that at Costco
To the right is a pic of what came in the mail 2 days later. So far it is the clearest sound I’ve ever had on a bluetooth headset. (I’ve used 4 others). It comes with a wealth of parts to adjust perfectly to your ear and a charging cable that can plug into your computer’s USB port or an A/C adapter.
Let me add that the charging cable has a nice magnetic connector like some of those new notebooks. So you don’t feel like you are putting extra wear on the headset when you attach it to the charging cable.
So far, I really like it

If you only back up to a hard drive, it WILL fail. One day when you really don’t have time to deal with it. If you aren’t already working with my friend Alex Liebeskind, you should look into this.
It’s especially nice if you use multiple computers, and ANY kind of smartphone. The Basic package is free.
I backup 30 GB constantly and they are synced between two computers as well. I pay $4.99 a month for peace of mind.
Best of all you can give someone a URL to a big file which they can download.
It’s good stuff.
Check it out now…
