Imagine you are going on a treasure hunt. You need to search for clues to get to your destination.
Some of these clues are hidden, some are in plain sight. Each clue gets you closer to the prize.
With all of the right clues, three steps from the oval rock, hidden under a rusty old doorway, there it is!
Now imagine you are your potential customer. The prize you seek is the service you offer.
Now you must discover the clues to find the prize. They are all there, on the internet, so you search.
How do you sort through all of the information?
How can you be sure they find you, and not your competitor?
Do you really believe that? Just having a website is not enough.
Everyone and their dog (or cat) has a website. You have to stand out from the sea of competition.
Not for your customers, but for the search engines.
Search engines use algorithms to search the internet. They are affectionately called “crawlers”.
That is the new method of discovering clues. Your clues.
How do you make sure your clues are found?
You put the clues where the crawlers look for them, both in plain sight and hidden.
Knowing what your potential customers search for, is the first step in building your website right.
That does not mean you have to build a new site. What it does mean is the structure must be right.
What they do see, and what they don’t see! Search engine optimization has many components.
What words or phrases are they searching for? These are keywords and search terms or phrases.
Your clues must be in the copy on your pages. That is called copywriting.
Image descriptions, UTM tags, slugs, indexes, and much more.
Then those terms must be placed as clues for the crawlers. Both in plain sight and hidden.
I know you have seen these terms, here is what they mean.
The art of optimizing websites to be found. The “clues” search engines look for.
The art of advising crawlers where to find you. Putting you on “the map”.
Where you are placed on pages when searched. You do want to be on the first page… right?
We know there are a lot of people that claim to know how.
We also know there are a lot of newbies out there with little to no experience, right out of training
